Getting started

What does Great Lakes Additive do?
Great Lakes Additive provides precision additive manufacturing and 3D printing services in the Great Lakes region — from prototypes and one-offs to production runs.
Where are you located and where do you ship?
We are based in Traverse City, Michigan and ship throughout the United States. Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on your address and package size.

Files & design

Which file formats get an instant online quote?
Mesh formats — STL, OBJ, and 3MF — support 3D preview and instant pricing at Get a Quote. CAD files such as STEP, STP, and IGES can also be uploaded online; our team reviews them and confirms pricing before you checkout.
What units should my model use?
The quote tool displays dimensions in millimeters. We recommend exporting your model in mm for the most accurate preview and estimate.
Is there a maximum part size?
The website accepts uploads up to 25 MB. For very large parts or build volumes beyond our standard envelope, contact us — we can often still help with a custom quote.
Can you help fix or optimize my model?
Yes. If we spot printability issues during review, we will reach out. For complex design-for-manufacturing work, contact us to discuss your project.

Materials

What materials can I choose online?
The quote form shows materials enabled for online ordering — typically including PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU, and resin options. Pricing reflects the material you select.
Do you offer materials not listed online?
Yes. We work with a wide range of materials for full-service projects. See our Materials page for what is available online today, or contact us if you need something specific.

Quotes, pricing & orders

How does instant quoting work?
Upload a mesh file, preview your part, choose a material, and submit. The price is calculated automatically from your part’s geometry and the selected material. CAD uploads follow the same flow but enter a pending-review status until we confirm pricing.
Is the online price final?
For instant mesh quotes, the displayed price is what you pay at checkout. For CAD and review-required uploads, the price is confirmed by our team before you add the quote to cart.
What happens after I get a quote?
Go to Your Quotes, add the quote to your cart, adjust quantity if needed, then checkout with your shipping address and payment. You will receive an order confirmation email and can track status from your account or via guest order lookup.
How long does production take?
Typical lead time is 5–10 business days after order confirmation. Rush orders may be available — contact us to discuss timing.
What's the difference between the Shop and a custom quote?
The Shop lists catalog products we publish for direct purchase. Custom quotes are one-off parts from your uploaded files — order them from Your Quotes after uploading, not from the shop catalog.

Scanning & reverse engineering

Do you offer 3D scanning?
Yes. 3D scanning is a core service described on our Services page. Projects are scoped through contact — there is no self-service checkout for scanning today.
Do you offer reverse engineering?
Yes. We can recreate parts from physical examples even without original CAD. Contact us to discuss your reverse engineering project.

Shipping & support

How will my order ship?
Shipping rates are calculated at checkout via Shippo based on your address and package size. You choose a rate before paying. When your order ships, you should receive an email with tracking information.
How do I contact you?

Account & orders

Do I need an account to get a quote?
No. An email address is required. If you are logged in, quotes link to your account automatically. Otherwise, use email lookup on Your Quotes.
How do I track my order?
With an account, visit Orders. Without an account, use Order Status and enter your order ID plus the email used at checkout.
